ORLANDO, Fla. (March 20, 2023) – The Florida Public Relations Association Orlando Area Chapter (FPRA Orlando) recognized retired Curley & Pynn Public Relations Management Co-Founder Roger Pynn, APR, CPRC, for nearly five decades of volunteer leadership, mentorship and philanthropy to the association by renaming its highest honor the “Roger Pynn Award for Career Excellence.”

The “Roger Pynn Award for Career Excellence” is FPRA Orlando’s annual award recognizing a Central Florida public relations practitioner for their 20 or more years of extraordinary professional leadership, industry contributions and achievements. Pynn received the award in 1987, as did retired Curley & Pynn Co-Founder Joe Curley, APR, CPRC in 1984 and current Curley & Pynn President Dan Ward, APR, CPRC in 2013.

“Being honored by the FPRA Orlando Area Chapter is overwhelming,” said Pynn, who retired in December from his role as senior counsel at Curley & Pynn. “I am beyond grateful. These are my peers and friends in a professional association that has shaped my career, and this recognition is very kind.”

“When it comes to legacy in our chapter, few compare to Roger Pynn, APR, CPRC,” said José Luis Dieppa, FPRA Orlando president. “We’re thrilled to honor and celebrate his contributions to FPRA as a longtime local and State Board leader, Central Florida business owner and philanthropist with this recognition.”

Since joining FPRA in 1974, Pynn has contributed at the state and local levels to strengthen the value of membership, create professional development opportunities, elevate public relations leaders and ensure the Association’s sustainability. His service and philanthropy have made it possible for countless professionals to reap the benefits of FPRA membership, advancing their careers and the profession as a result.

Pynn’s many volunteer leadership roles include chapter president in 1978 and Association president in 2015. He is also the creator and founding sponsor of LeadershipFPRA, a formal leadership development program for FPRA members. To date, seven cohorts totaling almost 150 members have completed the program, including Curley & Pynn’s Sarah Kelliher and Kacie Escobar, MBA, APR. Many have and will continue to ascend into Association and career leadership roles thanks to his vision, continuing to elevate the public relations practice and its importance in the eyes of business executives who rely on FPRA members for their unique expertise.
