MAITLAND, Fla. (October 15, 2012) – Two Curley & Pynn team members have joined the ranks of public relations practitioners who have achieved one of the highest credentials of the profession, the professional distinction of being “Accredited in Public Relations” or APR.

Heather Keroes and Kerry Martin, both communications strategists at Curley & Pynn, recently completed the APR program, which tested their knowledge of communications theory and its application, strategic planning and professional ethics.  The APR designation is awarded by the Universal Accreditation Board (UAB), a consortium of nine professional communication organizations that directs this competency certification program.

The APR credential recognizes a commitment to public relations and ethical practices in the profession.  Candidates must demonstrate broad knowledge, strategic perspective and sound professional judgment.

With nearly 10 years of experience in agency and in-house public relations, Keroes manages several client accounts at Curley & Pynn, including Visit South Walton (the South Walton Tourist Development Council), EA SPORTS and Universal Orlando Resort.  A member of the Public Relations Society of America, she also serves on the board of directors and as public relations chair for American Advertising Federation – Orlando and is communications chair for Overture! (a group dedicated to fostering the next generation of Orlando Philharmonic patrons).

Martin has worked with Curley & Pynn for more than five years and manages the firm’s work for the Florida High Tech Corridor Council, the University of Central Florida and community architectural firm ACi.  Martin is a very active member of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) Orlando Chapter, currently serving as its assistant treasurer and having served as the Image Awards vice president.  Martin is also active in Summit Church as a volunteer.

“Putting yourself to the test and continuing throughout your career to demonstrate your knowledge and commitment to personal development is critical for professionals,” said , Curley & Pynn president.  “We are proud to be a firm that continually strives to demonstrate the best of public relations.  As the latest members of our team to achieve APR status, Kerry and Heather are disciplined, hard-working and intelligent – true examples of practitioners within our team and the community.”

“In any professional field you must remain a student and continue to master ever-changing tools, technologies and trends,” said Pynn, who in addition to achieving APR status nearly 30 years ago earned the designation of Certified Public Relations Counselor (CPRC) in 2011.  The CPRC credential recognizes professional growth and achievement of senior-level public relations practitioners.
