Missing the Target … by About 1,000 Miles

Dan Wardby Dan Ward

We write often here about targeted marketing, and occasionally, marketing that misses the target.  But missing the target by 1,000+ miles?  Now that’s impressive.

The urgent email message I received yesterday from the Illinois Chamber of Commerce tells me to support an effort to fight state income taxes.  I’d love to help, guys, but I don’t live in Illinois.

For the past 30 years, I’ve lived in Florida (where there is no state income tax, by the way).  I’ve never lived in Illinois, though I did grow up in nearby Michigan and have visited Chicago several times.

While I appreciate the Chamber’s effort to “fight for [my] job,” I think with better data they could fight more effectively for Illinois jobs instead.
